The Real Problem
Most people think they can’t save because:
They have a lack of discipline or mental will
They need to make more money
They have student debt to pay off
These reasons may feel true but they are not the driver of why you’re struggling to save.
The real reason you are struggling to save is because you lack a system.
Core Concept
Think of systematic saving like brushing your teeth. You don't wake up each morning and think, "Hmm, should I brush my teeth today?" You just do it automatically because it's part of your routine.
Systematic saving works the same way. Instead of having to make a decision each month to save money, you set up an automatic transfer that takes the money out of your paycheck and sends it to your savings or investment account on the same day of every month. Usually right after getting paid.
Here's why this is so powerful: You can't spend money you never see.
When you try to save "whatever's left over" at the end of the month, there's usually nothing left. But when you pay yourself first by automatically sending money to savings, you learn to live on what’s left.
It's like having a subscription for your savings
Most people who save successfully don't have more willpower than you. They just have better systems. They've removed the decision-making from saving entirely and the money moves before they can even think about spending it.
The System
Implementing a systematic savings strategy is not as hard as you think. Here are the things you’ll need to get started (most of you probably already have everything):
Bank account (typically checking) that receives your paychecks
Separate account where savings will grow
That’s it! Now let’s make it automatic.
Step 1: Find your bank's transfer function
Log into the bank that receives your paycheck. Look for "Transfers," "Automatic Payments," or "Recurring Transfers."
Step 2: Connect your savings account
You'll need the routing and account number of where you want money to go. (Find these by logging into your savings account—they're usually under "Account Details.")
Step 3: Install your automatic contribution
Set three variables that will control how the money moves:
Amount (savings): Start with whatever feels comfortable now (we'll optimize this next week)
Frequency: Monthly
Date: The day after your paycheck hits (if you get paid more than once a month, choose the day after the first paycheck)

Hit submit and congratulations! You are now a systematic saver.
Leave discipline and forgetting to save behind. The system runs in the background building wealth while you sleep.
Take Action
Set up one automatic transfer right now.
Even if it's just $25. Even if you're not sure it's the "right" amount. The goal is not to be perfect. It’s to get started.
You can always adjust the amount later. But you can't get back the time you missed waiting to start.
